At Sparky's Woodworks, every order is a craft project — not just a transaction. We're a small, hands-on woodworking shop based in Missouri, and as of 2026 we have more than 400 active items in our online store. That's a lot of wood, a lot of hardwood panels, and a lot of love that goes into every single piece we ship. Here's exactly what happens from the moment you place your order to the moment it lands on your doorstep.
Step 1: Your Order Enters Our Production Queue
The moment your order comes in, we get to work — evaluating every item, noting what we'll need to complete it, and placing it in our production queue. We craft all orders in the order they're received, so every customer gets a fair shot. Plan for a minimum lead time of 48 hours before crafting begins, and up to 14 days during holidays and peak gifting seasons. We appreciate your patience — good things take time, and we refuse to rush craftsmanship.
Step 2: Is Your Item in Stock?
Some of our most popular pieces are kept in stock at the shop. If your item is ready to go, it ships within 1–2 business days. Easy. But because real wood costs real money and we carry hundreds of unique designs, we can't stock everything — and we wouldn't want to. Part of what makes a Sparky's Woodworks piece special is that it's often made specifically for you.
Step 3: If We Need to Craft It, Here's What That Looks Like
Items not in stock are precision-crafted to order. We don't pull from a warehouse — we pull from a hardwood rack. Here's the full process:
Selecting the Wood
We start by hand-selecting the right hardwood for your item. For medium and larger pieces, we may need to create a custom glued panel before we can even begin carving. This step alone takes 24–48 hours — and it's worth every minute.
Precision Carving
Once the wood is ready, we precision carve your item. Most carvings are completed in under 24 hours. Highly detailed 3D carvings — the kind that make people stop and stare — can take up to 72 hours to complete.
Hand Sanding & Finishing
After carving, every piece is hand sanded and prepped for stain and paint. No shortcuts, no skipping steps. The surface has to be perfect before anything goes on it.
Staining
Many of our pieces feature two colors of stain — a signature look that takes real patience. The first stain color is applied and allowed to dry for at least 24 hours. Then the piece is hand sanded again to remove excess stain and achieve that ultra-smooth final finish. Then the second stain color goes on, followed by another 24 hours of dry time. You can't rush a good stain job.
Hand Painting
If your item includes hand painting, add another 48–72 hours to the process. Paint is applied in multiple coats with dry time between each one, followed by a final 24–48 hour cure before the piece is ready to wrap and ship. We want your piece to arrive looking exactly the way it looked when it left our hands.
Step 4: Packed & Shipped
When your item is finished, fully dry, and passes our quality check, we pack it carefully and ship within 24 hours. We typically ship via UPS 2nd Day Air Express, so once it leaves our shop, it moves fast.
The Bottom Line
We're not a big box retailer. We're a small Missouri woodworking shop that takes pride in every piece that goes out the door. If you ever have questions about your order status, don't hesitate to reach out — we're real people and we're happy to help. Thanks for supporting handcrafted, Made in USA woodworking. It means everything to us.
